Highland Village
Highland Village is a city in Denton County, Texas, that borders the south side of the far western branch of Lewisville Lake. The city remains primarily residential and with the addition of The Shops at Highland Village, The Marketplace at Highland Village, and a “one-of-a-kind” Wal-Mart Supercenter, resident no longer need to travel to Flower Mound or Lewisville for dining, shopping and entertainment.
Highland Village has been chosen as the safest city in North Texas for the past 6 years, for cities with a population of more than 10,000 with data provided from the FBI Crime Statistics. In 2008, Highland Village was also part of the Texas Municipal League (TML) Award for Excellence, and for the 2nd time, declared one the safest cities in all of Texas. I am proud to be part of one factor that contributes to the safest city designation, in volunteering with the Police Auxiliary and Volunteers in Patrol (VIP) with the Highland Village Police Department.
The 2006 projection by the U.S. Census Bureau puts the city’s population at 15,738. A number of residential subdivisions are located within Highland Village, including Highland Shores, The Oaks of Highland Village, and Castlewood.
Students attend schools which are part of the Lewisville Independent School District. Briarhill Middle, Heritage Elementary, McAliffe Elementary and Highland Village Elementary all fall inside the city limits. High School students attend Marcus High School in Flower Mound immediately across FM 407 on Morris Rd.
Highland Village hosts the Red, White and Blue Festival and a Balloon Festival every year, attracting thousands to the banks of Lewisville Lake at Copperas Branch Park. The city’s Inland Trail System is approximately 10 miles of multi-use trail for walking, jogging, dog walking and cycling. The trail system also connects neighborhoods, schools, parks, shopping, and city offices.
